Monday Morning Musings (on Wednesday)

Sorry this is so late but I've been traveling and detained with other extended family matters. But here we go.
  • Well I blew it. This past Sunday I failed to mention our giving Sunday, that we were taking up extra to help our church cover some expenses. If you came prepared to give extra, then you can give it this Sunday if you did not already this past Sunday.
  • Also, this Sunday Brett Boesch, former IMB missionary, and current missionary with the Nashville Baptist Association will be our guest preacher for Missions Sunday. Don't miss it.
Here's some links:
How Do I Raise Grateful Kids? … It starts with being thankful ourselves.
He Was Looking for God … this 40 second clip is so good. Think about what he is saying there. Luther wanted to know God, not a doctrine. Doctrine is key. But knowing God is the point.
A Devotional for Depression … this time of year and your circumstances and your personality maybe conspiring against you to bring you down. Here's help.
It's Not Political Idolatry … it's boredom. Really insightful as always. But I do think there is some idolatry going on as well.
No Good Deed You've Done … will remain hidden. Encouragement!
The Biggest Story Family Devotional … looking for a resource to help you with family devotions. Try this one out. It's on sale. The original children's book is fantastic.
The concept of substitution may be said then to lie at the heart of both sin and salvation. For the essence of sin is man substituting himself for God, while the essence of salvation is God substituting himself for man. Man asserts himself against God and puts himself where only God deserves to be; God sacrifices himself for man and puts himself where only man deserves to be. Man claims prerogatives which belong to God alone; God accepts penalties which belong to man alone. [JOHN STOTT]
