Monday Morning Musings

Grace and peace to you all! Yesterday we looked at the Gentleness of Jesus in the hope that we might grow in gentleness. I wish I could preach the gentleness of Christ like he deserves but I tried. And here's Spurgeon's sermon on the very topic … much better, and a little study article on the topic.
A few reminders …
  • This Sunday is the last day for OP Xmas Child. Bring your box!
  • Also, time is running out on Bethel shirt orders (free advertising for our church and supports our children's ministry).
  • Nov 23rd — Day of Giving and Thanksgiving Meal!
  • Men's Ministry shootout on Nov 22nd at 12pm.
Here's some links:
The Secret to Parenting … do less of it! This is a secular article but I think it makes a valid point that others have been making. We over-parent nowadays and it does not make kids better and it makes us more stressed. But that's my take. [Also, that may not be a free article.]
Do We Remember the Poor? … this is one of those areas where I struggle with how well churches actually do and can do this.
Homosexuality Revisited … responding to common affirming arguments.
What Does it Mean to “Train Up a Child?” … and this is not in opposition to the first article. We are called to train and we can over-parent.
And, as promised, and part of the conversation, here's another article on the benefits of a plurality of pastors in a church. Note the historical nature of the article as well.
“Meek. Humble. Gentle. Jesus is not trigger-happy. Not harsh, reactionary, easily exasperated. He is the most understanding person in the universe. The posture most natural to him is not a pointed finger but open arms.” [Dane Ortlund]
